Social Psychology

Chapter 12 describes a whole range of mental health disorders that may affect us - the intensity of some disorders prevent us from functioning well (or at all) in everyday life.

Chapter 13 provides an overview of various modes of therapeutic methods.

Chapter 14 examines how we think and behave in social situations. Because we are social beings, the way we response in the company of others is an important psychological topic. Social influence can be a major element that molds our behavior in both positive and negative ways.

Readings

Read Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 in your textbook.

List the components of behavioral self-management
Explain techniques such as ECT, brain simulation therapy, and transcranial magnetic stimulation.

Chapter 14

Define social psychology and understand the role it plays in the field of psychology.
Define attitudes including attitude formation and persuasion.
Explain self-serving bias and the impact of body language on our social perceptions.
Explain the power of group behavior and the influence of groups including social facilitation, group decision-making, groupthink, deindividuation, altruism and the bystander effect.
Distinguish between the concepts of prejudice and stereotypes.
Explain interpersonal attraction theories and the concept of love.
