It is great to have you in class!

Although online courses are designed for independent learning, I will communicate with you along the way to offer pointers, answer questions, etc. However, it will be up to you to check deadlines, complete your work, etc.

To ask questions about the class this term, you can click on the "Inbox" link at the top of the page. These are private communications sent directly to me. If there is an emergency where you cannot access Canvas, my college email is wnixon@bscc.edu. However, please use Canvas for anything related to the course.

During the term, my goal is to respond to you within 48 hours of receiving your questions. This time period will not include weekends or holidays so be aware and plan ahead when contacting me.

Course Goals

This course is a survey of behavior with emphasis upon psychological processes. This course also includes the biological bases for behavior, thinking, emotion, motivation, and the nature and development of personality. In order to accomplish these goals, we will complete quizzes, assignment, discussions, and exams.

Course Structure

This is a course divided into several sections. Sections are instructional units that contain various learning activities such as quizzes, assignments, discussions, and exams. You will complete the activities within each section and your performance on these items will comprise your grade. You can access the sections by clicking on the labeled buttons below. The sections will be available by date as indicated on the syllabus. You can also select the "Modules" link on the left side of your screen and go to the full listing of all modules (sections) and their related activities. This area is similar to a table of contents for your class.

Course Expectations

In order to make your course experience a positive one, an important first step is to be sure everyone to be on the "same page." Treating each other with respect while expressing your personal point of view is vital. While instructors and others here at the college are here to support you, ultimately you are responsible for your learning and your future direction in life. Course Information

For specific course information, visit the Syllabus. The syllabus is likely the most important document to keep you on track during the term. It contains a course description, college policies, a tentative weekly schedule, and a listing of required activities! All deadline dates and activities are listed in the syllabus. Once you read the syllabus, complete the Syllabus Quiz which can orient you to how Canvas quizzes are taken. Click on the "Start Here!" button below to get further oriented to the course. There is some intentionally repetitive instructions and guidelines as well as some new information that is very important so be sure to read everything closely. You must complete this orientation module in order to access the rest of the course. Be sure to complete the Orientation Quiz and set your preferences - both are very important!

Meet Your Teacher

My name is Wade Nixon and I am based on the Hamilton campus - I teach accounting, business, and social science courses. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the private sector as a human resources administrator for a Japanese manufacturing company and an aerospace corporation associated with NASA's space shuttle. However, I have been with Bevill many years now and have enjoyed the change - I like the idea that we can reinvent ourselves along life's journey if we find something that captures our imagination. It is my hope that something in this course will pique your curiosity to learn more about our world. For this online class, I will serve as your teacher and tour guide as we study psychology.
